Brilliant Murphy, Poor Windass – The best and the worst rated Rangers players vs Motherwell

Motherwell 2-2 Rangers: Gers Come From Behind To Snatch Away A Point

Rangers came back from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Motherwell at the Fir Park on Saturday.

Things did not start well for the Gers as the home team took the lead in the 9th minute, courtesy of a Curtis Main penalty. It got worse for Graeme Murty’s men when Alan Campbell made it 2-0 in the 16th minute.

Rangers mounted a strong comeback post half-time, as James Tavernier slotted home a penalty just six minutes into the second period before Jamie Murphy scored just two minutes later.

Despite having a number of chances to complete their comeback and secure the win, the Gers came up short and had to settle for a draw.

Here’s how the Rangers players fared on the day.

Rangers Player Ratings

Wes Foderingham – 6/10

Made a couple of decent stops and distributed the ball well from the back. Not a lot he could do about the two goals.

James Tavernier – 5.5/10

Easily overpowered in the lead up to the second goal for Motherwell. Looked nervy at the back and lost possession often. Redeemed himself with a penalty goal to start the comeback.

Bruno Alves – 4/10

The senior pro looked completely out of depth on the day at the Fir Park. Stood still in the build-up to the second goal, allowing Motherwell the space and time.

James Tavernier

Russell Martin – 5/10

Conceded the penalty in the first half, albeit slightly unlucky with the referee’s call. Was all over the place for the Steelmen’s second goal. Made an important block to stop them from going 3-0 up.

Declan John – 6.5/10

Was always on the prowl to get forward and supported Murphy in the attack. Was defensively suspect at times and needs to improve.

Greg Docherty – 7/10

The 21-year-old was once again the pick of the players for the Gers. Showed great energy and industry in the middle of the park, covering for his partner. Solid.

Graham Dorrans – 5.5/10

Returning to the field after almost six months out on the sidelines, the former Norwich City midfielder showed obvious signs of rust. Booked in the second period. In need of regular game time.

Jamie Murphy

Daniel Candeias – 6/10

Always available to help Tavernier out defensively on the right-hand side. Was slightly disappointing in his forward play as he failed to beat the first man with his crosses.

Josh Windass – 4/10

Struggled to have any sort of meaningful impact on the game. More was expected from the attacking midfielder and he let his team down, especially in the first-half. Taken off with an injury scare late on.

Jamie Murphy – 7/10

Started off slowly against his former club in the first half but burst into life after the break. Brought the Gers level with a wonderful goal and caused plenty of problems from the wide areas.

Alfredo Morelos – 6/10

Cut an isolated figure at the top for most of the first half. Improved after the break and gave the home side’s defence something to worry about.

Substitutes

Jason Cummings – N/A

Replaced the injured Windass for the last ten minutes or so.
