Brilliant Messi – The Best And The Worst Rated Barcelona Players vs Celtic

Brendan Rodgers watches on from the sideline at Parkhead

It was a straightforward night’s work for Barcelona as a Messi double sealed his side’s progression into the next round of the competition.

We look at the Barcelona player ratings:

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen – 6

Looked uncomfortable when Celtic pressed high early on and was fortunate to deny Moussa Dembele.

Sergi Roberto – 6

Struggled slightly when Forrest attacked him and picked up a yellow card.

Javier Mascherano – 8

Read the game superbly, and snuffed out any Celtic threat before it was able to materialise.

Gerard Pique – 7

It wasn’t the hardest nights work for the Spaniard, but he was masterful in every situation that he had to deal with.

Jordi Alba – 7

Always looked in control on the left flank. Defensively sound, and got forward well. Picked up a booking for a cynical trip on Sinclair.

Ivan Rakitic – 6

It wasn’t his most eye-catching game, but simply did what he had to do, and allowed the star men to take the game to Celtic

Sergio Busquets – 7

Dominated the midfield, despite an early warning from Scott Brown that he may be in for a tough evening.

Andre Gomes – 6

Was simply solid, and did the dirty work, but wasn’t the most inspiring performance.

Lionel Messi scored his second of the match from the penalty spot

Lionel Messi – 9

Man of The Match. Scored two and ran the show. It was yet another performance that got people talking because he was simply incredible.

Luis Suarez – 6

He worked hard, but his game lacked any decisive quality, and he missed two very easy chances. Did well to win the pen that led to Messi’s goal, however.

Neymar – 8

Such a wonderful player to watch on nights like these, as he ghosts past players as if they are not there. Picked up a cynical booking to free himself up for the last 16.
