Hull City recorded their first win of the season – a narrow 3-2 win over Rotherham United away at the New York stadium. The home side got a lead against the run of play when defender Richard Wood scored from a corner delivered by Ryan Manning. Jackson Irvine equalised for the Tigers 12 minutes later with a fine volley.
Fraizer Campbell put the away side ahead with a close-range finish at the stroke of half-time before Irvine made it 3-1 just after the break. Rotherham did get a goal back from Jamie Proctor, but it wasn’t enough for them to sneak out a point. In the end, it was a fine win for Nigel Adkins’ men.
Made a few routine saves and couldn’t have done much to stop the two goals he conceded. A secured performance in general.
Found himself at right-back in a reshuffled back-line for Hull City today. Provided an attacking outlet and combined well with Jarrod Bowen.
Was guilty of giving a needless corner which allowed Rotherham to score the opener. He was a part of a defence which never looked comfortable against set-pieces.
Still not able to fully adapt to the English game. Got bullied in aerial duels at times. Adkins would be a worried man.
He looked at home at left-back. Assisted Campbell’s goal with a perfect cross into the box.
A tenacious performance on his return. He added some much-needed bite and zest in the midfield for the Tigers.
He ably partnered Batty in central midfield and put in a better show after failing to turn up at the weekend.
Bowen was full of energy down the right-wing and assisted Irvine’s second goal. His forward-thinking runs pushed the opposition fullback on the back-foot.
Assisted Irvine’s first goal with an imperious cross. The Brazilian looked lively and duly deserves the plaudits.
A strong performance from Irvine was capped off by two goals on either side of half-time. Apart from that, the left-winger was a constant danger to the opposition.
Scored the equaliser and played a key role in the third goal. Led the line with maturity and purpose. He is growing in stature week by week.
Tried to do a few things, some of which came off and others didn’t.
Added know-how and quality to the Hull City midfield in the dying stages of the game.
