Brilliant Hazard And Azpilicueta: The Best And The Superb Chelsea Players Rated From Their 5-1 Drubbing Over Sunderland

Chelsea

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea wrapped up their title-winning Premier League season with a thumping 5-1 victory over Sunderland at the Stamford Bridge as they bid farewell to their long-standing skipper John Terry this weekend. Javi Manquillo put the visitors in front just three minutes into the game but Willian pulled one back, just five minutes later to put Chelsea on level terms, even as they headed into the halftime break.

Eden Hazard and Pedro scored within 16 minutes of each other to put Chelsea 3-1 up as two late goals from Michy Batshuayi sealed a perfect end to a perfect campaign. There were a number of stars for Chelsea on the night and here are the player ratings for the Blues:

Thibaut Courtois (6):

Was busier than he would have expected but put in a decent performance to keep his side in the game in the first half.

David Luiz (8):

Was unlucky that he created Manquillo’s chance early in the game but was hardly troubled after that.

John Terry

John Terry (7):

Though will be frustrated by conceding early, will be happy with the farewell his side have given him in what was the last game of his Chelsea career.

Cesar Azpilicueta (8):

A strong performance from the Spaniard, who was yet again solid at the back, keeping Sunderland quite for most of the game.

Victor Moses (6):

Was comfortable going back all night and had his moments in the final third in what turned out to be a drubbing against Sunderland.

N Golo Kante (7):

Influential in the middle of the park as Sunderland were surprisingly fluid, helping Chelsea regain possession quickly, as he has done throughout the season.

Cesc Fabregas (6):

Was out of touch for most of the game but created a few chances, one of which was a sublime ball for Pedro’s goal in the second half.

Marcos Alonso (6):

Stuck to his task well on the flank and created the first goal from a thunderous strike from a free kick to get Chelsea back to level terms.

Willian (7):

Was at the right place when the ball came back off the post to fire home Chelsea’s first goal and was industrious throughout the game.

Eden Hazard (9):

The player of the game for Chelsea, Hazard did a great job carving the defences open all night long and also got himself a goal with a sensual finish.

Diego Costa (6):

A frustrating night for the Spaniard who was given no time or space on the ball to hurt their visitors on the night.

Subs:

Gary Cahill (8):

Replaced John Terry and hardly put a foot wrong in taking Chelsea all the way to a victory.

Michy Batshuayi (7):

Came in with not much of the game left but showed a great hunger to bag two late goals for his side.

Pedro (7):

Also came off the bench to great effect as he scored from Fabregas’ ball before setting up Batshuayi for his first on a productive night.
