After what seemed like a relationship that would never ever end, Brighton and Hove Albion have officially sacked manager Chris Hughton. The former Tottenham star managed the last game of his tenure with the Seagulls against Manchester City, ending on the losing side.
Despite helping his side stay in the Premier League for a second consecutive season, the 60-year-old was let go. Reports have indicated that Brighton Chairman Tony Bloom was shocked by the club’s sudden dip from a mid-table side into a relegation-threatened side within months.
In fact, Brighton’s biggest issue was the fact that they were relying on 35-year-old Glenn Murray to score a large portion of their goals.
The Englishman finished as the club’s highest scorer with 13 goals and no one else has come close to matching that. In second place stands Shane Duffy with 5, who is a centre-back.
It shows exactly where the club have struggled and where the next manager has to improve upon. But now, with Chris Hughton sacked, the club has to move forward.
Replacing him will be tough but the Guardian has reported that Graham Potter is at the top of their list. The Swansea City boss has done exceptionally well for himself and it’s no surprise to see him in the running.
Linked with a move to Celtic as well, Potter is the clear front-runner to take over and despite Swansea City’s offer of a new deal, the lure of top-flight football could be just too much. There are few managers in the world as perfectly suited for the Seagulls as Potter.
A rather unconventional manager, Potter has made a few fans over his managerial career.
His spell at Swedish side Ostersund saw him take the club back into the top-flight from the fourth-tier of Swedish football with a tiny budget. That earned him a move to Swansea City and nothing has changed.
This season, a large portion of the Swans’ season has seen U-23 players dominate the teamsheet doing incredibly well.
That is something Brighton desperately need, someone to freshen up their teamsheet and help them not only survive but thrive in the Premier League. Graham Potter has the coaching style and skill to help them do both.

Brighton need a manager who can help them move forward as they continue to stay in the Premier League for the near future. At least that should be their aim and Graham Potter is the man to help them do that and move forward.
