Rodgers joining hands with this £10m Celtic star would make Leicester a force to reckon with next season

Leicester City opinion – Foxes in for Callum McGregor – Good Move?

According to a report in Leicester Mercury, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is interested in signing Celtic playmaker Callum McGregor during this transfer window.

The duo has worked together before when the gaffer was in Celtic, where the player is currently plying his trade.

As per the report, the Scottish champions value the player at around £10m, who has a contract at Parkhead until the summer of 2023, having signed an extension last December. (h/t Leicester Mercury)

Along with Leicester, their Premier League rivals Brighton and Watford are also interested in the Scotland international (h/t Leicester Mercury), who has played over 150 top-flight games for Celtic, winning multiple titles.

Here’s why the Foxes should beat the others for the signature of the 26-year-old:

McGregor’s versatility would be useful

Predominantly a central midfield player who can play the dual number 10 role in a 4-1-4-1 formation, Callum McGregor can play in a double-pivot central midfield or as one of the wide midfielders in a 4-3-3 formation.

With three goals and 10 assists and tonnes of key chances created in 30 league appearances last season, the Scotland international shows that he is right up there when it comes to fabricating goal scoring chances for the team.

In terms of his attributes, the 26-year-old possesses a good turn of pace on the ball, can dribble past defenders in tight areas to open up space in between the lines, can pick a pass from deeper positions and is good at closing people down without the ball to help the team.

All in all, McGregor could be an ideal player under Rodgers, especially in a team of Leicester’s quality. Having worked together till February of this year, the training regimes and understanding as to how one thinks about the game won’t be a problem for this duo.

Conclusion

Hence, Leicester shouldn’t hesitate in forking out the cash to get the Celtic man. With Youri Tielemans’ future at the King Power Stadium still not confirmed (h/t Leicester Mercury), McGregor’s addition could be welcome.
