Manchester City 6-0 Chelsea: Cityzens obliterate Blues to regain top spot

Manchester City thumped Chelsea 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium to regain the top spot, going ahead of Liverpool on goal difference to make a real statement of their intentions. Right from the kickoff, it was obvious which team was going to be in the ascendancy and as expected, City were completely dominant from the opening knockings of the game.

It took them less than four minutes to open the scoring as City took a quick free-kick which caught the Blues defence completely off guard. Bernardo Silva drilled a ball in but it bounced around and fell to an arriving Sterling who smashed it home to make it 1-0.

Aguero then missed a sitter but made up for it the 13th minute when he dribbled past a couple of Chelsea midfielders before whipping in a curling shot which gave a diving Kepa no chance. The domination continued as City started to look rampant.

Five minutes later, they scored again when a shabby back-header from Ross Barkley expertly picked out Aguero on the spot to make it 3-0 and by this point, the result and the trend of the game were becoming quite obvious.

City’s unstoppable rampage carried on when they made it 4-0 in the 25th minute. A good attack from City found Gundogan on the edge of the City box. He shanked the ball into the far corner past a hapless Kepa.

Chelsea’s only real chance came when a smart Higuain volley was headed towards goal but forced a brilliant save out of Ederson. As the game headed into half-time, the Chelsea players were completely out of it and it didn’t seem like a Blues goal was on the agenda.

As the 2nd half began, City’s domination continued and when Azpilicueta brought Sterling down in the box illegally, Aguero stepped up to bag his hat-trick as well as City’s 5th on the night.

Finally, in the 80th minute, Zinchenko played the ball in from the left flank and like the rest of the night, the Chelsea defence looked rather inexistent. Sterling casually put the ball into the roof of the net to make it 6-0 as they headed straight back to the top of the Premier League table.

Here’s how some thrilled Manchester City fans reacted to the demolition of Chelsea:
