It is now being suggested that Zenit St Petersburg have put a £70m release clause on their midfield superstar Axel Witsel, as Premier League sides Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United compete with each other to sign him. The 26-year-old superstar is one of the most wanted midfielders in the continent and a host of clubs are looking to sign him this summer.
Despite that, Zenit are determined to keep the powerful midfielder in Russia, though it was recently revealed that the 26-year-old superstar has had talks with Serie A giants AC Milan and an unnamed Premier League side.
Current boss Andre Vilas-Boas met the Belgian international to have talks about his future and now it seems that the club officials have stepped in to ensure that the former Benfica star stays at the Petrovsky Stadium.
A statement by the club, via news agency TASS confirmed, “We have repeatedly said that he has a release clause and it is worth €100m (£70m).”
