Having pursued Everton’s John Stones all summer, Jose Mourinho has gone to Ligue 1 to sign FC Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji. According to reports from France, the player is having is medial with the West London side currently and will complete his move soon before signing a four-year deal with a reported fee of £4million.

Previously linked with Sunderland, it is surprising to see Chelsea’s interest in the 27-year old defender. However, with Martinez and Everton failing to accept the Blues bid for Stones, Djilobodji looks to be a decent alternative. The Senegalese International, 27, has made 169 appearances for Nantes and can play as a holding midfielder if called upon, which might have tempted Mourinho’s decision to sign him in the last minute.
