Real Madrid or Manchester City? Which Would Be A Better Place For This German Sensation?

The summer transfer window at the end of the current domestic season is set to be a busy one with clubs around Europe actively looking to pounce on targets that can improve their squad. With not much quality up for sale, the biggest clubs in Europe are set to battle it out for star players this summer and once such player wanted all around Europe is German sensation, Julian Brandt. Currently on top of the wishlist for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, Brandt is currently favoured to move to Real Madrid or Manchester City, with both clubs ready to meet his valuation come the end of the season. So where does this Bundesliga starlet fit better? The Etihad or the Bernabeu?

First, let’s take a look at his scout report in brief. Born and brought up in Bremen, Germany, Brandt started his youth career at SC Borgfeld as a 6-year old and has grown on to become one of the most exciting stars in the domestic circuit. He has played for Germany at all the junior levels and has already won 4 caps for the senior side, making him a potential superstar.

Brandt has some impressive offers waiting for him.

Known for his pace and dribbling, Brandt is a player who loves to have the ball at his feet. Not too strong in the air, the 20-year old is adept at creating chances from wide areas, playing through balls for his teammates in dangerous areas. His key pass percentage is up with the best in the Bundesliga at the moment, having scored 3 goals and provided 6 assists this season in 28 games. He is an integral part of the squad at the BayArena at this tender age.

Zinedine Zidane would be desperate for some attacking additions, especially with the transfer ban lifted and would be also looking to offload some of his underperforming players to create vacancies in the squad. Manchester City on the other hand have the likes of Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane, two youngsters with playing style similar to that of Brandt. Hence this raises the question of where would he fit in better?

A chance to play for Real Madrid will be impossible to turn down and there are very few reasons why he would. If Zidane succeeds in selling few players, then he will need a player who can walk into the first team and though Brandt is not at that level, if there is anyone who can help him get to that level, it is Zizou. The 20-year old will learn more than what he has in his entire career and it would be silly for him to turn that offer down.

Manchester City, with all their financial prowess, might be able to pay Brandt more, but they will not be able to play him regularly. With decent performances this season, Sterling and Sane are expected to play huge roles at the club next season leaving Brandt with little chance of making it into the starting XI. At his age, Brandt needs as much playing time as possible to become the best and he should choose a club that can promise him the most.

Playing a 20-year old making his debut in England regularly in the starting XI could be disastrous in the Premier League for Guardiola. But in La Liga, surrounded by superstars all around, Brandt will have a better chance of turning into the player that he can be.

Where do you think Julian Brandt should play next season?
