Bournemouth would pull one over Leicester City by luring this £22m star to fill Lewis Cook’s void

Why Bournemouth should sign Adrien Silva from Leicester City

Bournemouth have made a decent start to their season in the Premier League and are currently 8th in the table. They are now looking like an established top-flight team, which is a miracle in itself for a club that was at the lowest echelons a decade ago. Manager Eddie Howe deserves an umpteen amount of credit to have lifted this squad of players to play high-intensity football week in week out.

The Cherries generally play either a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-4-2 system. It includes two adventurous full-backs, a striker, a support striker or a No. 10, two flying wingers and a double pivot of hard-working central midfielders. Hence, it is clear that the midfielders have to cover a lot of ground in the central areas of the field.

Lewis Cook

With Lewis Cook suffering a season-ending injury against Huddersfield a week ago, Bournemouth are down to three fit first-team central midfielders – Jefferson Lerma, Andrew Surman and Dan Gosling.

It is imperative from the club’s viewpoint to sign a new midfielder in the January transfer window. Here’s why they should hire the services of Adrien Silva from Leicester City:

Adrien Silva’s quality would be advantageous for the club

As per latest reports from Leicestershire Live, the Portuguese midfielder hasn’t been able to impact much at Leicester City and manager Claude Puel is considering selling him next month. He was signed from Sporting Lisbon last January transfer for a fee close to £22m.

The 29-year-old is chiefly a central midfielder, who can play as an attacking midfielder and a defensive midfielder if required. Thus, he will be able to play in either a 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 system without really switching many gears.

Bournemouth should take advantage of his situation at the King Power stadium and bring him to the Vitality Stadium. Silva is a quality player who could thrive under the bold management of Eddie Howe.

The Portuguese international is a fine passer of the ball and can create chances from deeper positions. He is good defensively as well and can function well at the South Coast.

This deal would fulfill the requirements of both parties in a sense that the Cherries need an extra central midfielder for the second part of this season.

On the other hand, the player hasn’t been able to break through the first-team at Leicester. He would also be looking for a move elsewhere to play more games and regain the rhythm of playing regularly. Thus, the Cherries must go all out in their pursuit of Silva in January.
