According to a report in the Sun, Premier League side Bournemouth are plotting a £10m swoop for Swansea City star Connor Roberts during this transfer window.
The Cherries scouted the right-back, while they were closely looking at Manchester United-bound Daniel James (h/t Sun). They need a right-back for next season, as Nathaniel Clyne, who was on loan at the South Coast, will return to Liverpool. (h/t Sun)
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has been impressed with Roberts’ performances this season, having looked at him while tracking James.(h/t Sun)
While the latter is now set to go to Old Trafford, Cherries can get the former over the line (h/t Sun). They are going to test Swansea’s resolve by making a £10m bid. (h/t Sun)
Here’s why Bournemouth should do everything to sign Roberts this summer:
Connor Roberts is a quality full-back, who predominantly plays on the right, but can operate on the other side, if required. He has played as a wing-back in his career as well.
He was one of the stars for Swansea in their Championship season while appearing 45 times in the league, scoring five goals and assisting twice, which is more than decent for a full-back.
The 23-year-old is a proper modern-day full-back, who has the pace to make runs up and down the field and has an impact on both parts of the game. He is a physically strong player, hence, it isn’t easy to shrug him off the ball.
The Welshman is also a very fine one-versus-one defender in wide areas, thus, wingers won’t get much change out of him.
All in all, Roberts is a high-quality player, who could step up in the Premier League and play well there. Bournemouth shouldn’t hesitate in making a move for him.
With Clyne gone, Howe’s men will be left with Adam Smith as the only option at right-back. Simon Francis is there, but he is 34 now and may not really impact the game by playing as an out-and-out fullback.
