Bournemouth opinion: Should the Cherries consider Liverpool’s Mignolet?

The Daily Mail has reported that Bournemouth have shortlisted three potential goalkeeper targets for this summer. Their list includes Jack Butland, Nick Pope, and Simon Mignolet, as the Cherries search for alternatives to their current options.

At the moment, the club has Artur Boruc and Asmir Begovic, but neither goalkeeper has impressed this season. Begovic has missed large parts of the season after falling out with manager Eddie Howe and his performances before that did not help him either (Sky Sports).

He has returned recently but the former Chelsea man has failed to do enough to keep his first-team spot. That’s why Howe has been forced to use 39-year-old Artur Boruc.

Things haven’t exactly gone according to plan with a 39-year-old in goal for the Cherries. They’ve only managed to win four of the 11 games, losing a whopping five with two draws, keeping just four clean sheets in the process.

It showcases exactly why Bournemouth need a new goalkeeper and Simon Mignolet should be among their top targets. Currently, at Liverpool, the 31-year-old is an experienced set of hands.

Last season things changed for the Belgian, as he became a back-up goalkeeper to Loris Karius and now Alisson Becker. However, he’s done well when called upon by the club.

With Bournemouth chasing after a more reliable goalkeeper, the Belgian should really consider making the move over.

Despite both him and Begovic being the same age, the Liverpool man is a much better and more reliable goalkeeper. So far, Mignolet has managed to play over 200 games for the Reds.

Clearly Eddie Howe has high hopes for his Bournemouth team but without a reliable goalkeeper between the sticks, he cannot do that.

Conclusion

Simon Mignolet will be a cost-effective and yet very reliable choice for Bournemouth next summer. The Cherries need a new goalkeeper and while there might be other options out there, the Belgian has the attributes that they need.
