Bournemouth should prioritize signing this pacy wing-back who’s on loan from Liverpool this summer – Here is why the move would be a shrewd one by Howe

Bournemouth Opinion: Keeping Nathaniel Clyne for next term is essential

Bournemouth are currently in 11th place and find themselves a relieving 9 points away from the dreaded drop zone. Eddie Howe’s influence on this young group of players is very clear to see and while they have some prodigious players in their ranks, they have also made some smart signings over the years.

Probably the smartest one that Howe made this season, the move for Nathaniel Clyne from Liverpool has delivered the positive results that they were hoping for. He has come into the team and settled well and while he was out with injury for a while, he certainly hasn’t lost his blistering pace.

Nathaniel Clyne

Bournemouth are a side that depend on pacy players. With the likes of David Brooks and Ryan Fraser creating avenues into the opposition box using just speed and sheer brute force, the addition of an experienced head like Clyne has certainly worked it’s magic.

The 27-year-old was part of the Liverpool team that played the famous Champions League final against Real Madrid last season. His composure and collectedness on the ball have certainly been a massive aid to this Cherries side as well.

Capable of defending really well, his tracking runs are excellent and while he positioning is usually perfect too, he certainly has the pace to make the required sort of recovery run and he is also an intelligent defender who isn’t prone to silly individual errors.

Going forward, his pace is obviously an asset and on the overlap, his crossing and delivery are quite commendable too. He reads the movements from his teammates extremely well and has the quality to pick out perfect passes. He even pitches in with the odd goal from adventurous forays forward.

He has made over 300 Premier League appearances with three different clubs and has played a whopping 103 times for Liverpool. His defensive record at all the clubs he has played for are excellent and this makes him an easy choice for a proven defender.

He has played 5 times for Bournemouth so far and has impressed on each occasion. His link-up play down the right side has been good while his overlapping runs will certainly come as help to Callum Wilson.

The experience he brings to this young side is also key as he has played at some of the biggest stages in world football during his time at Liverpool. An England international, he made his debut for the Three Lions back in 2014 and has since played 14 times for them over the years as well.

Still only 27, the Englishman has many good years to look forward to and being at Vitality Stadium under the guidance of a charismatic manager like Eddie Howe is just what the wing-back needs at this stage in his career. Bournemouth must look to extend his loan for another year in the summer if they can’t dish out the money required to make his move permanent.
