Bournemouth opinion – Cherries linked with Marcus Tavernier – Good move?

According to a report in Daily Mail, Bournemouth are keen to sign Middlesbrough winger Marcus Tavernier, as they bid to prepare for life without their star man Ryan Fraser.

The latter, who is wanted by Newcastle United, Arsenal and many others is ready to leave the South Coast club (h/t Daily Mail). Hence, Eddie Howe’s men have no choice but to find a replacement.

Tavernier was initially a subject of interest from Manchester United before the January window, who earmarked him for their U-23 squad (h/t Daily Mail). However, their minds changed once Jose Mourinho was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

As per a report in Bournemouth Echo, scouts of other English clubs have also been tracking the progress of the young winger, who trained with Gareth Southgate’s England team back in September last year.

Here’s why Bournemouth should take centre-stage and sign the 20-year-old in the summer:

Tavernier can be as good as Fraser

Marcus Tavernier is a versatile wide player, who can operate on either wing or also play as a left-back, if required. He has also played in central midfield in certain occasions, expanding his range of being a useful squad player for any manager.

The 20-year-old possesses a terrific left foot, with which he can deliver dangerous crosses into the box and dribble past defenders in the wide areas with ease.

The England U-20 international has serious pace to trouble any defence, by making runs in behind. He is also very direct in his approach towards the goal, meaning defenders cannot back off and hope for a reprieve.

Even though Tavernier has played very less this season, Tony Pulis has used him as an impact sub player, which has shown what he can bring to the table if given a chance on a regular basis.

Hence, we can say that the 20-year-old has all the tools to replace Ryan Fraser at Bournemouth and harness a similar impact at Dean Court.

Conclusion

Therefore, the Cherries need to be proactive and sign the player as quickly as they can.
