Is this a way to keep hold of Eden Hazard? Definitely not but looks like the Blues have joined the race to sign Alex Witsel from Zenit St. Petersburg out of sheer interest.
The 27 year old is currently with the Belgium squad at Euro 2016 but earlier this month he has spoken out about his wish to move to Italy or England. New Everton boss Ronal Koeman is interested to sign Witsel but now that Chelsea has joined the race and with Witsel specifically mentioning that he want “to join a big club” either in England or Italy, we can assume that Chelsea will be the preferred option over Everton for the Belgium international.
Currently Chelsea are pursuing Radja Nainggolan but Antonio Conte is reportedly getting frustrated as the deal is turning out to be difficult. Now with Witsel wanting to leave Zenit the Blues have an option in hand in case the Nainggolan move does not materialize.
