Birmingham City Opinion: Blues should sign Bright Enobakahre

According to Birmingham Mail, Birmingham City have been credited with an interest in out-of-favour Wolves youngster Bright Enobakhare, with the report claiming that Blues caretaker manager Pep Clotet is in the market for a few new additions this summer. 

Enobakhare spent the second half of this past season on loan at Coventry City in League One and caught the eye with some impressive displays in front of goal.

The 21-year-old chipped in with 6 goals and 3 assists in 18 league outings for Coventry, with his goal in the 5-4 victory over Sunderland being the highlight of his fruitful loan stint at the Ricoh Arena.

The Nigerian starlet’s stellar run of form was one of the key reasons behind Coventry’s late surge for a promotion playoff spot and while the Sky Blues eventually fell short, Mark Robins’ side still remain the frontrunners in the race to sign Enobakhare permanently. (h/t Birmingham Mail)

The same report claims that Coventry City had made a bid worth £600,000 for the 21-year-old earlier in the summer, although Wolves are probably looking at a seven-figure fee to part ways with their highly-rated academy product.

Enobakhare was supposed to be out-of-contract this summer but Wolves triggered a one-year extension to his contract, probably with a view to cashing in on him.

Enobakhare, who moved to England from Nigeria at the age of 15, joined Wolves at the youth level and impressed one and all with his rapid progress before making his first-team debut in the Championship in the 2015-16 season.

The pacey attacker continued to play a bit-part role under former manager Kenny Jackett but the arrival of Nuno Santo saw his game time reduce drastically.

The 21-year-old made 5 starts and played a further 16 cameos off the bench in the 2017-18 season, as Wolves secured promotion to the Premier League as the outright winners of the Championship.

However, Enobakhare was completely sidelined by Nuno Santo following the club’s promotion to the top-flight, with the youngster spending time on loan at Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership and then Coventry City last season. 

To put things into perspective, it is quite clear that Bright Enobakhare, despite being a fine young talent with a lot of potential, doesn’t have a future at Molineux in the Premier League.

The Nigerian desperately needs to complete a permanent move away from Wolves in order to continue his development down the right path and a move to St. Andrew’s could be a win-win situation for all parties involved. 

Pep Clotet replaced Garry Monk at the helm of affairs earlier in the summer but the Blues still have a lot of problems to sort out before the next season gets underway.

Birmingham currently find themselves under pressure to cope with the departure of playmaker Jota and top-scorer Che Adams, who were two of club’s most influential players in the Championship the last term. 

The Blues are going to have the services of Lukas Jutkiewicz and Jacques Maghoma and Issac Vassell upfront but someone like Enobakhare could add that energy, power and X-Factor to their attack and provide cover in multiple areas of the pitch across the final third. Not to mention, his presence would also boost competition for places in the ranks. 

Enobakhare’s lightning pace coupled with his quick feet, slick passing and silky dribbling skills make him a menace for the defenders, whilst his versatility to lead the line and play out wide on the right means that he could hand a massive boost to the manager’s squad dynamics. 

The 21-year-old still has plenty of time to make significant improvements to his game and transform himself into a prolific scorer, so going all out for him should be an absolute no-brainer for the Blues.
