Best And Worst Rated Manchester United Players Against Chelsea: Lingard Scores A Peach Of A Goal

Manchester United Player Ratings

Manchester United left Stamford Bridge with one point but will feel hard done by the result. United were leading the tie thanks to a magnificent finish from Jesse Lingard in the second half but conceded an equaliser when Diego Costa somehow found space and even a last ditch tackle by Cameron Borthwick-Jackson could not stop him from the slotting the ball past David de Gea.

United did have the better chances until they took the lead and maybe dropping back and egging Chelsea on wouldn’t look like the best tactic after the game, this still was an impressive display from the Red Devils and we look back at the game and provide the player ratings for the men from Manchester.

David de Gea – 8/10

Excellent throughout the game and couldn’t do much to stop Costa’s goal. Did well to ensure United leave with a point with another great save in the last minute.

Matteo Darmian – 7/10

The Italian had a few good runs up and down the right for United in the first half and wasn’t troubled all that much throughout the game.

Chris Smalling – 7/10

Had a great game until the goal went in but Smalling should be happy with his performance.

Daley Blind – 8/10

Daley Blind might not be the most physical centre back in the league but he certainly knows his way around the opposition and also helps in the set-piece delivery at times.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson – 7/10

Another impressive display from the youngster, this should ensure that he stays in the starting XI for a while.

Marouane Fellaini – 6/10

Fellaini went missing in the game for large parts but was decent overall.

Michael Carrick – 7/10

Carrick’s range of passing wasn’t all that prominent today but he did do a good job in marshalling the midfield.

Jesse Lingard – 7/10

Lingard might have taken the goal with an exquisite finish but he does need to do more to put his stamp on the game.

Juan Mata – 7/10

Applauded from all around at Stamford Bridge, the former Chelsea player was good in the heart of the attack as he linked up well with Rooney and co.

Anthony Martial – 7/10

Martial had a wonderful first half for Manchester United but his performance in the second half wasn’t all that great, he did however make Branislav Ivanovic’s life extremely difficult though.

Wayne Rooney – 7/10

Wayne Rooney did have a few good chances but they weren’t clear-cut, he did do a great job of holding the ball and hassling the Chelsea defence.

Substitutes:

Morgan Schneiderlin – 6/10

Was brought on to ensure that United keep the lead and did alright in midfield.

Memphis Depay – NA

Depay’s place in the team has been taken over by Lingard and the Dutchman was a late substitute for the English youngster but couldn’t do much in the game.

Ander Herrera – NA

A substitute in extra time didn’t have enough time to show his ability.
