Best And Worst Rated Liverpool Players vs Sunderland: Firmino Was The Best Player On The Pitch

Liverpool Player Ratings vs Sunderland

The absence of Jurgen Klopp from the touchline seemed to be the biggest problem for Liverpool as they were held to a 2-2 draw by lowly Sunderland despite taking a 2-0 lead with just a few minutes to go, Simon Mignolet let in a tame free-kick before Jermaine Defoe bagged the Black Cats a crucial point in their battle for survival.

Roberto Firmino

The game didn’t have a lot of goal mouth action in the first half though Liverpool were the better team but the game came to life when Roberto Firmino broke the deadlock in the second half, rising superbly to meet James Milner’s cross.

Liverpool then made it two thanks to Firmino playing in Adam Lallana who coolly slotted past Vito Mannone. Sunderland though got their wind back when Mignolet could not keep out Adam Johnson’s effort on goal and had to rue their woeful attempts at defending as they lost out on two points.

There was a massive walkout protest by the fans in the 77th minute as well regarding the new ticket prices and with almost nothing going right for the Reds, we look back at the disappointing draw and rate the Liverpool performance.

Simon Mignolet – 3/10

This should be the last straw, yet another mistake by the Belgian which cost Liverpool dearly.

Nathaniel Clyne – 6/10

Clyne had an alright game with his moves up and down the right side of Liverpool.

Dejan Lovren – 5/10

Injury ended the Croatian’s game time against Sunderland and maybe they could have done better if he stayed on.

Mamadou Sakho – 5/10

Should have done more to deny Defoe the space to turn and shoot late on in the game.

Alberto Moreno – 6/10

Did extremely well in the game and was a great threat down the left, could have scored for the Reds.

Jordan Henderson – 5/10

The captain was taken off in the second half but didn’t do much to trouble Sunderland.

Emre Can – 5/10

The German was the deepest player but didn’t have the greatest game for Liverpool. He was alright in possession but needs to do more.

Joe Allen – 5/10

The Welsh Xavi was replaced at half-time due to injury and couldn’t do much to affect the game.

James Milner – 6/10

Another James Milner like performance by the Englishman and certainly wasn’t the worst player on the pitch for Liverpool.

Adam Lallana – 7/10

Got the second goal which should have killed the game off but a decent performance by Lallana.

Roberto Firmino – 8/10

The best player Liverpool had on the pitch, scored one goal and assisted the other.

Substitutes:

Kolo Toure – 5/10

Was brought on early in the first half to replace Lovren but should have done better not to concede the second goal.

Jordon Ibe – 5/10

Another one dimension display from the Englishman, he certainly isn’t living up to his billing as the next big thing from Liverpool.

Lucas Leiva – NA

Was brought on with just a few minutes left and didn’t have a lot of time to do much.
