Bayern Munich vs Liverpool report: Liverpool match report

Liverpool produced a brilliant performance to beat Bayern Munich 3-1 at the Allianz Arena to go through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Sadio Mane scored a brace, while Virgil van Dijk netted the other. Joel Matip scored the own goal for the Bavarians.

Around the 26th-minute mark, a long ball from Van Dijk was beautifully brought down by Mane. The Senegalese star then had the composure to turn and leave two Bayern defenders for dead. A chip into an empty was the icing on the cake.

The home side came back into it when Serge Gnabry made a good run in behind Andy Robertson and delivered a good ball across goal. With Robert Lewandowski behind, Matip couldn’t have done much but turn the ball into his own net five minutes from half-time.

Jurgen Klopp’s men came out in the second half and started controlling the game. Twenty minutes from time, a James Milner corner found the head of van Dijk, who rose the highest to give the away side an all-important lead.

Then in the 84th minute, Mohamed Salah got into the act with a delicious outside of the boot cross for Mane to glance it into the back of the net.

All in all, it was a perfect away European performance from Liverpool, who controlled the game against one of the best teams in the world.

Here’s how their fans reacted after this monumental night for the club:
