Man City letting go of their £37m star would be nothing but a disaster move by Pep Guardiola – agreed?

Manchester City opinion – Bayern in talks with Leroy Sane – Should City let go?

According to a report in Daily Record, German giants Bayern Munich have been given the permission to speak to Manchester City winger Leroy Sane’s representatives in a bid to agreeing on contractual terms.

City’s stance on the German international has been quite understated, to say the least. The newly-crowned Premier League champions would prefer the 23-year-old to stay in Manchester, however, if we see how Pep Guardiola used him this season, it doesn’t look all that rosy (h/t Daily Record).

On the other hand, Sane, who arrived at the club in the summer of 2016 for £37m (h/t BBC), has rejected several offers that was aimed to upgrade and extend his current contract which expires in the summer of 2021 (h/t Daily Record).

If that’s the case, then City are not going to risk the player running down his contract and move for free. They may have to sell him sooner rather than later (h/t Daily Record).

Here’s why the English champions would commit a blunder by letting the winger go:

City would regret letting go of Sane

Since the start of 2017/18 season, Manchester City have been the dominant force in English football. Winning back-to-back titles is some achievement, regardless of the fact that they are the most expensively-assembled squad in the history of the game.

Guardiola can literally field two high-quality teams out of his squad, both of which would be capable of challenging for the title. Hence, it won’t be an exaggeration to say that there is extreme competition for places in the team.

Amidst all that, until the summer of 2018, Leroy Sane was one of the first names on the team sheet. It just goes to show that he was one of the important cogs in the setup that went on to win 100 points in a league season.

He backed the trust by providing 25 goal contributions (10 goals and 15 assists) in 32 appearances (27 starts). However, instead of his appearance-count increasing, the German has featured 31 times this season, with 21 starts.

In spite of that, the 23-year-old managed to make 20 goal contributions (10 G and 10 A). This just goes to show that he is a real threat to the opposition defenders irrespective of whether he starts the game or comes on as a substitute.

Therefore, Manchester City will make a big mistake by pricing Sane out. They have Raheem Sterling who can play in his position, with Riyad Mahrez on the right. But the latter is not good when compared to the German.

Conclusion

The Cityzens and Guardiola must find a way of dealing with the player and find common ground. He is an influential asset in the squad, who mustn’t be let go of.
