Predicted Wolves Line-up To Face Aston Villa In The EFL Championship
Sitting just behind Cardiff City in second place, Wolves have started the season as predicted, having signed some excellent players. Looking at their overall profile, I would expect them to take top spot very soon.
With the exception of the 4-0 win at Burton Albion, it has always seemed that Wolves’ style is to just get the job done. So even if the game is close here against Villa, I would not be backing against them.
This game should have plenty of spice as a West Midlands derby, especially given the fact that those connected to Aston Villa will still see themselves as the bigger club in these parts, something their respective profiles and league positions would not back up.
Here’s how Wolves might take the field against Aston villa
Formation: 3-4-3
Manager: Nuno Espirito Santo
GK – John Ruddy
The ex-Norwich man was an inspired signing and he has gone about proving that with his early displays.
CB – Willy Boly
It’s hard to say which of Nuno Espirito Santo’s myriad central defenders will play, but with Batth now back in the side, Boly may parter him and Miranda.
CB – Danny Batth
I can only hope Batth does line up, as I thought he was excellent last season before looking as though he was missing out this term under the new regime. He retains Premier League potential.
CB – Roderick Miranda
The Portuguese defender has done well since his arrival and will probably play somewhere across the back line.
RWB – Matt Doherty
Given the presence of Conor Coady in the squad, it was a surprise at the start of this season to see Doherty be given this role but he has performed admirably thus far.
LWB – Barry Douglas
The former Dundee United man missed out last time at Burton but assuming that he returns, he can offer a good outlet down the left for Wolves.
CM – Ruben Neves
Given his price tag, I’m sure I’m not the only one who has watched with interest how Neves has settled in at Wolves and in this league. In his 11 Championship games he has been man of the match once and has managed a pass completion rate of 84%. Should he lose possession a little lesser, he will be the complete product, which at the age of 20 would be quite an achievement.
CM – Romain Saiss
He is no Neves, but has complemented the young man well in the middle and should continue in this vital game.
RW – Helder Costa
It’s been great to see the winger back in the side and he really is a Premier Player in waiting. He’s a big game performer, so I would not back against him scoring at some point in these 90 minutes.
LW – Ivan Cavaleiro
To this point, his reputation has not reached that of Costa. However, the difference in their quality is negligible and he adds to an embarrassment of riches in the Wolves squad right now.
ST – Leo Bonatini
4 goals in 11, but add 4 assists to that and good all-round displays too, and you can see his quality. You can only imagine that a 23-year-old Brazilian striker will only improve too. So good times are to come.
