Barca Opinon: Barca should sign Nishikawa to enhances their reserves ranks

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are keeping close tabs on the Japanese teenager, Jun Nishikawa, as the Catalans are looking to bolster their youth ranks.

Earlier this week, it was reported Barca were imminent towards securing a deal for Kashima Antlers forward Hiroki Abe.

Now, they have set their eyes on another exciting talent from the J-league named Nishikawa.

However, at the age of 17, Nishikawa can’t be allowed to leave the country and join the Catalans. In fact, Barca will have to wait until next year to secure his signature (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

Nishikawa – an exciting midfield talent

The 17-year-old broke into the main team of Cerezo Osaka earlier this year after impressing with the reserves side. Nishikawa attracted more interest when he debuted for Japan’s U20 team in the recently ended U20 World Cup. He plays as a midfielder and is left-footed by nature.

How would Nishikawa be of great use for the reserves?

The Catalans’ hunt for exciting talents has clearly extended beyond Europe and it seems like their rivals Real Madrid are doing the same, having secured a deal for Takesfusa Kobo.

After all, there was an exodus of players in Barca’s reserves. The likes of Rafa Mujica and Guille Amor moved to Leeds United, Cardona joined Osasuna while Marc Cucurella joined Eibar. Despite that, the Catalans still managed to snatch top talents like Ludovit Reis and Mike Van Beijnen from the Netherlands.

Nishikawa can be a great addition, given that he has already become a starter for his national side through the U20 World Cup.

While midfielders like Carles Alena, Rique Puig have already gotten chances to represent the main team, the Japanese prodigy can become the next one to achieve such an incredible feat.

And at a top club like Barca, Nishikawa would always get enough room for improving himself. In fact, he can build a constructive career under the tutelage of the highest order.

Final Verdict

The Blaugrana’s U23 side saw some exciting youngsters getting promoted to the main team last season. Players like Moussa Wague and Riqui Puig are expected to play a huge role under Ernesto Valverde in this forthcoming season.

Hence, Barca should keep their red-hot transfer spree alive by signing the Asian wonder kid Nishikawa.
