According to reports, Christian Benteke will not be a part of the Liverpool squad to face Aston Villa in the Barclays Premier League at Anfield on Saturday. The 24-year-old superstar had sustained a hamstring injury in the Red’s 1-1 draw with Norwich City at the weekend. It will be a huge blow for Brendan Rodgers’ side, who just welcomed back Daniel Sturridge in the same game from a long term injury.
The Belgian international signed completed his move away from Villa Park for a fee of £32.5m in July and has had a decent start to his career with the Merseyside club.
Benteke had an MRI scan recently and could possibly also miss the derby game against Everton, if the injury is a serious one and he fails to recover on time. With Rodgers under a lot of pressure in recent weeks to perform, things are just going from bad to worse and if his side can’t start performing now, he might receive the sack soon.
