Bad move Nuno – Wolves have committed a blunder by completing this £12m deal

Benik Afobe to Stoke – Why Nuno Santo might have done a mistake

Benik Afobe has officially joined Stoke on loan until January. The striker will join the Potters permanently after the expiry of his loan spell. The £12m deal comes as a massive shock because less than two weeks ago, he made his transfer from Bournemouth to Wolves permanent.

Meanwhile, Wolves announced a loan deal for Mexico international Raul Jimenez the same day. Times are certainly getting interesting and turbulent at both Wolves and Stoke right now.

Afobe is the second signing for new Stoke boss Gary Rowett, since his purchase of Nigerian midfielder Etebo from Portuguese side Feirense.

It’s obvious that the Potters are working towards securing an immediate return to the Premier League. They already have Peter Crouch, Bojan, Mame Diouf, Saido Berahino, Julien Ngoy and Tyrese Campbell as options up front.

Afobe is definitely going to be a useful addition to the team. He scored 6 goals in 16 games for Wolves last season, helping them win the Championship. The player also had a decent spell with Bournemouth in the Premier League and a far as Stoke are concerned, this is a top signing for them.

What about Wolves though? As far as football is concerned, Nuno Espirito Santo was brave to sell Afobe. Wolves need an immensely strong squad for their top-flight return, and right now, they seem to be short of options in the attack. Or at least as far as having a typical striker is concerned.

Yes, they have Rafa Mir and new signing Raul Jimenez. However, Mir is too young to make an instant impact in the Premier League.

Paul Gladon and Duckens Nazon don’t seem like players who have enough quality to lead the attack in what is expected to be a long and hard campaign for the West Midlands outfit.

Surely, Santo must work towards bringing in at least another striker. Jimenez looks like a strong choice but hehe will need competition.

Furthermore, having another striker in the mix will enable the manager to use a two-striker formation in certain situations as well. Thus, losing Afobe at this point is questionable for Wolves.
