Rotherham 2-2 Sheffield United: Blades drop points away from home

Sheffield United dropped points in the Championship after Jamie Proctor scored a stoppage-time equaliser to earn Rotherham United a deserved point.

Chris Wilder’s men led twice through Mark Duffy and Chris Basham but Rotherham, who dominated for large spells, first equalised through Jon Taylor before Proctor struck late on to extend the Millers’ unbeaten run to six games.

Rotherham had the first chance to score in the very first minute but Richie Towell made a poor connection of his volley that was kept out by goalkeeper Dean Henderson. That miss came to haunt the hosts just moments later as Mark Duffy gave United the lead in the eighth minute, drilling a low shot in the bottom corner.

United goalkeeper Henderson was called into action once again as he made a full stretch save to deny Taylor. The visitors almost doubled their money with the ball ricocheting around the penalty area and being cleared off the line by Vaulks before Duffy drew a smart save from Rotherham goalkeeper Rodak.

Rotherham started the second half brightly with Towell venturing with a purpose to deliver a teasing ball which was met by the head of Smit, whose glanced header flew wide of the target. Clayton Robertson’s half-volley was kept out by Henderson but the on-loan Manchester United shot-stopper could do nothing to deny Rotherham in the next attack as Taylor levelled the matters.

Taylor’s strike from the edge of the box took a heavy deflection off Basham which received Henderson and went into the net. The equaliser gave Rotherham a renewed optimism and they chased the winner with 10 minutes left in the game but again found Henderson in top form as he pushed over Ajayi’s header from a corner.

Against the run of play, United took a 2-1 lead with six minutes to go when Billy Sharp’s cross was headed home by Basham. Basham’s goal looked to seal all three points for the Blades, only for Rotherham’s persistence to pay off in the second minute of stoppage time, with Proctor tucking home to make it 2-2.
