AVFC News: Dean Smith issues warning ahead of Jack Grealish’s return

The Lions were able to outsmart Bristol City in last week’s Championship game, even with the absence of Grealish.

Tammy Abraham and Conor Hourihane were those among the score sheet, as the Lions picked up a 2-1 win.

Now, Smith has warned his players that nobody’s position is guaranteed in the presence of the 23-year-old.

“I said after the game that it was great that we won the game without Jack Grealish because he’s been an integral part – and people will look at it and think we’re a one-man team – but I also said I’d much rather have him in my team because he’s one of the best players in this league.”

“But nobody is guaranteed a place in this team.”

Grealish has been in red-hot form, since returning from injury last month.

In a space of a month, the English midfielder has helped his side pick up a string of wins. To be more precise, the Lions have won all of their last seven games in the Championship, without a single defeat or draw.

Grealish also scored some wonderful goals in the process and won the Championship goal of the month for the goal he scored against Derby County.

He was also tipped to have an international call-up, following Gareth Southgate’s visit to Villa Park last month.

Smith insisted that players from Championship can also make an impact at the national team.
