Aubameyang fancied to bag the Premier League Golden Boot

The battle to win this season’s Premier League Golden Boot looks set to go down to the wire, with just three goals separating the top seven players heading into the final weeks of the season.

Sergio Aguero and Mohamed Salah currently lead the way with 19 goals, but the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sadio Mane will fancy their chances of overhauling them having scored just one goal less.

Raheem Sterling (17) and Eden Hazard (16) are also in the mix, but an injury to Harry Kane (17) has ruled him out of the race.

The winner is likely to come from the current top four in the list, so read on as we look at the main contenders to win the Golden Boot.

Salah back on track

Mohamed Salah

Salah’s 32-goal haul was enough to secure the Golden Boot last season, but a barren spell over the past couple of months appeared to have harmed his chances this time around.

However, goals in successive matches against Southampton and Chelsea have seen him draw level with Aguero and he is now favourite to retain his crown.

Liverpool have a relatively easy run-in and Salah could be difficult to stop now he has found his scoring boots once again.

Rotation could harm Aguero’s chances

Sergio Aguero

The Manchester City forward – already in the Premier League’s all-time top scorers list – has enjoyed another impressive season, but a busy schedule could work against him in the race to finish as top scorer.

City boss Pep Guardiola tends to rotate his forward players, meaning Aguero misses opportunities to boost his goals tally.

He is currently second favourite to finish the campaign as top scorer, but better value in the Golden Boot market appears to lie elsewhere.

Aubameyang looking good

Aubameyang has been a prolific scorer throughout his career and he has shown no signs of slowing up with Arsenal.

He scored 10 goals in 13 Premier League appearances last season and has followed up with another 18 this time around.

With games against Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Burnley still to play, Aubameyang looks great value at odds of 11/2 to win this season’s Golden Boot.

Mane in the mix

The Liverpool forward is having his best-scoring season as a Premier League player, bagging 18 goals with four games to play.

No player has scored more than Mane’s 10 league goals in 2019, but the fact the Reds have played a game more than their rivals could count against him.

With Salah also desperate for goals the pair may end up hampering each other’s chances of finishing the campaign as top scorer.
