At 28, Why This Argentine Is The Answer For Manchester United’s Attacking Woes

Gonzalo Higuain

Manchester United, the club was considered as one of the best in Europe till it followed the footsteps of Legendary Sir Alex Ferguson. After his retirement, we have witnessed how the club and the players have dipped their form.

This season, United was supposed to compete for the title, and compete in the Champions League. Well, nothing of that happened and right at this very moment, the club is fighting to secure the 4th spot to qualify for the Champions League.

United were never short of talent this season, but the team continuously lacked in the attacking attribute. Well, surely the injuries played a great part in the initial stages of the season, but the players cannot argue over their poor run of form for the past couple of years.

Coming to the point, the fans want to replace the Dutch manager Louis van Gaal as his philosophy is taking the club to an entire different direction. The debate over the future of van Gaal’s career is another verdict, but whosoever will be the manager next season, he will be having a huge task ahead of him. A task of rebuilding the team. Many ins and outs are necessary to make Untied the team they were before.

If recent reports are to be believed, then the team is looking to get the signature of Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain. That’s actually a great move, because United have been lacking that attacking bite in front of the goal for the entire season, and a player like Higuain will give them a different dimension.

In the recent game against Norwich City, United somehow managed to get a positive result, but club legend Paul Scholes had something to say about Louis van Gaal’s tenure at Old Trafford;

“It makes you wonder if he realizes the size of the club he (Van Gaal) is at,” Finishing four or fifth in the Premier League and winning the FA Cup is probably not good enough for Manchester United.
“What are you saving Rashford for?” said Scholes.
“It’s not like you’re saving yourself for anything. You’ve got three games of your season.
“Maybe it’s just that he’s not interested in scoring goals.”
“If he comes in after a game and scores one goal and had maybe five or six shots on target, like Leicester, but had 70 per cent possession – I think he’s much more happy with that.
“He judges his performances on how much possession he had.”

Coming to the point of Higuain, should United really make a move for Gonzalo Higuain and confirm the rumors?

Yes, surely they must make a move to sign this Argentine. If we look at the stats, he is the perfect man to lead the attack for United; 32 goals scored in 33 appearances, a shooting accuracy of 57%, created 49 chances, 10 man of the match awards and a passing accuracy of 78%. So basically, he is the player United needs.

Higuain is a hard working striker and a prolific goal scorer. Although he might misfire a few shots, his goal scoring instincts are wonderful. The player is technically fabulous and is able to hold the ball while the support arrives. We saw Di Maria struggle in the Premier league, but I’m pretty sure that Higuain will have a time to remember in the premier league. The Argentine is surely a threat for the opposition’s defence as he is quick on and off the ball.

He surely can adopt the style of play at Manchester United which includes a fluid and steady ball movements, off the ball movements and a use of playmaker to spot the target man in the box. Higuain can be that target man which United desperately wants. United are blessed with gifted midfielders, Herrera, Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney, all are capable of making a defense splitting pass, and Higuain is the player who can match the finish as it is delivered.

The former Real Madrid striker will offer United a completely different dimension as he is a pure predator in and outside the box.

So, the conclusion is still the same. There are no cons in signing the player as he will be the right man for Manchester United who can solve the misery of their attack.
