Aston Villa signing this £43m La Liga sharp-shooter would make them a fearsome PL force next season

Aston Villa opinion: Should the Villans make a move for Maxi Gomez?

According to reports from English news outlet the Birmingham Live, Aston Villa are keen on a move for La Liga star Maxi Gomez. It’s a stunning development and if the move actually happens, it would be a rather incredible swoop by the Lions.

It’s along the lines of Swansea City getting Renato Sanches.but it is also a move that would cost Aston Villa a lot as the 22-year-old striker has a rather decent £43million release clause.

For a top-10 Premier League side, that is pennies to the pound but for a newly promoted side like Villa, that fee might just be too much. That is given the fact that the Lions have a lot of other work to do on their side.

They’ve released 8 players and that leaves manager Dean Smith with a job to do in the summer window.

Not only that, given their issues with goalkeepers Villa need a new one alongside a new centre-back, midfielders and even a winger. It’s not good news and it also does mean that spending that much on a single player wouldn’t be good news.

But if they can afford the move then this is a move that would be absolutely perfect. The better version of Tammy Abraham, Maxi Gomez is a superstar in the making. His aggression combined with a determination to always do well has mad the Celta Vigo star a very wanted man.

The fact that he finished with 19 goals and five assists in his debut La Liga season adds to his value. Gomez finished this season with 13 goals to his name and added a further five assists, which includes a brace off the bench against Real Betis days after recovering from an ankle injury.

It’s that determination that makes him the perfect fit for Aston Villa and while he is nothing like the strikers they have, the 22-year-old will still flourish.

A 6 foot 1-inch centre-forward, Gomez doesn’t contribute too much when it comes to the build-up play as other centre-forwards but he is as effective if not more as other centre-forwards.

His aerial ability and his ambidextrousness help him shoot and score from nearly anywhere, and with time he could become even better. This is a move that would do both sides a massive a lot of good, and Maximiliano Gomez is ready for a move to a better league.

The 22-year-old has the potential to become one of the best in his position but only if he moves on.
