Why Aston Villa should sign Adam Reach from Sheffield Wednesday

According to a report in Birmingham Mail, Championship club Aston Villa are interested in signing Sheffield Wednesday’s winger/attacking midfielder Adam Reach for a fee close to £10m. The player is a target for manager Dean Smith, as the Villans look set to make an impact in the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old has had a great season so far, and his reputation rose to another level after his wonder strikes against Villa, Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion. Reach has been playing as an attacking midfielder this campaign and has done well for Wednesday.

In an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Owls, encapsulating in the sack of Jos Luhukay, the Englishman has made some significant progress after joining from Middlesbrough in 2016. Here’s why Aston Villa should get him in this month’s transfer window:

Adam Reach’s addition would help the team

After a wobbly start to the season and the sack of now Wednesday manager Steve Bruce, Villa have done well in the past couple of months under new boss Dean Smith.

Adam Reach

They are playing a better brand of football, which is attracting the fans in the stadium and also improving the chances of a possible promotion to the Premier League.

The good thing is that the goals are flowing, with everyone in the forward line contributing. Jack Grealish hasn’t had the best of his campaigns, but the Villans have coped well. Hence, getting another asset for the enhancement of the quality of the squad wouldn’t be a bad idea. Adam Reach could be perfect.

Villa are currently five points behind in the race for the playoff spots. It is obvious that they need to improve defensively to have a chance but to add more quality to the attacking midfield department is right in many senses. Reach can play in that position, and can also operate on either wing.

Dean Smith

His experience of Championship football will also aid the team to be ahead in crunch situations in certain games. The numbers of this season show that the 25-year-old is capable of producing match-turning moments that might be enough to win an important game of football.

All in all, Villa can splash the cash and get the player over the line at Villa Park sooner than later, especially before any other potential suitor jumps in.
