Aston Villa signing this 24-goal French star would make them a fearsome force next season – opinion

Aston Villa opinion: Should the Villans sign Neal Maupay?

According to a report from the Examiner Live, Brentford’s Neal Maupay has attracted serious interest from Huddersfield Town, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough. The 22-year-old has been a revelation in the Championship this season and Brentford will be desperate to keep hold of him in the summer.

Huddersfield Town will be eyeing an immediate return to the Premier League after an embarrassing campaign this season. Boro’s chances of getting into the playoffs depend on Derby County slipping up, as they currently sit 7th in the table.

However, the most impressive team among the lot has been Aston Villa. The Villains are the favourites to clinch promotion after an incredible run, which has seen them win each of their last 10 games.

One of the biggest reasons why Villa have been so dangerous this season has been Tammy Abraham’s form. The 21-year-old has scored 25 goals so far this season.

Villa will need a player who can match Abraham’s goals if they are to replace him in the summer and Neal Maupay could just be the guy for them. The 22-year old Frenchman has scored 24 goals and has provided 8 assists for Brentford in a spectacular season so far in the Championship.

Maupay is not as quick as Abraham but he is a more all-round forward than the Chelsea man. The Frenchman is someone who can not only bury chances at will but is also a player who works hards for the team and is capable of creating chances as well.

One player who you can compare Maupay to is Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette. Maupay, very much like his compatriot, is extremely hard working in and around the box and is often seen dropping back to make himself available for a pass.

The Frenchman is deadly in front of goal, as evident in his numbers this season but one excellent aspect of his game is his unselfishness. Maupay has never been the sort of player to ignore a teammate in a better position, which is a rare trait in the modern game, especially for a striker.

Conclusion

Aston Villa will need a proper goal scorer in place of Tammy Abraham if they want to be as good as they have been this season and Neal Maupay is the ideal candidate to take over.

The 22-year-old has been more convincing as a striker than Abraham this season and he should be a priority signing for the Villains in the summer.
