Aston Villa should plot a January move for this out-of-favour Tottenham winger

Why Aston Villa should go all out for Georges-Kevin Nkoudou in January

According to a report from the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to listen to offers for out-of-favour winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou in January.

The Frenchman has struggled to make an impact at Tottenham Hotspur since joining the club two years ago from Marseille. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Burnley and managed just eight appearances without scoring a single goal.

Georges-Kevin Nkoudou is on the periphery of Tottenham, having appeared just once this season and that too in the Carabao Cup competition. With Spurs willing to offload the 23-year-old French winger in January, Aston Villa should make a move for him.

Aston Villa are struggling in the Championship this season and have brought in a new manager, Dean Smith, to change the club’s fortunes. Smith is yet to weave his magic at Villa Park, having won once and lost two games he has been in charge so far. Surely it’s going to take some time before Villa starts playing the way Smith wants them to play but unless the 51-year-old manager brings in a couple of reinforcements, claiming a play-off spot looks highly improbable.

Defence has been Aston Villa’s major concern this season but going forward, they haven’t been great either. It is probably one of those seasons for the Villans where the ball just doesn’t seem to find the back of the net. Truth to be told, there has been a lack of cohesion between the midfielders and forwards, resulting in predictable, one-dimensional style of football often.

That surely has to change if Smith wants to challenge for the Premier League promotion. In Tammy Abraham, Jonathan Kodjia, Anwar El Ghazi, Scott Hogan, Jack Grealish and Yannick Bolasie, Villa have a really exciting pool of attacking players capable of creating as well as scoring goals at will. Suffice to say, the Midlands club need more firepower in attack and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou could be the ideal signing to change their fortunes this season.

With game time hard to come by, N’Koudou should also look to leave Spurs for regular football in January, whether that be on loan or on a permanent basis. He isn’t good enough to break into the senior squad as it stands under Pochettino but at 23, the winger has enough time to take his career back on track.

A nippy attacker, Nkoudou is primarily a left-winger but he has the ability to switch flanks at will. His ability to cut inside with pace from the wide areas and score goals with both feet will be a huge asset to the Villans. He is blessed with explosive pace, dribbling skills, technique and decent finishing skills.

The Frenchman might prove to be the ideal feeder for the likes of Tammy Abraham and Jonathan Kodjia with his crossing ability from the wings. Furthermore, Nkoudou will also provide competition for the likes of Grealish, Bolasie and El Ghazi.

That said, Aston Villa should leave no stone unturned in their efforts to sign Nkoudou from Tottenham in January.
