Aston Villa could fight for Premier League promotion if they appoint this World Cup winner as their next manager

Why Thierry Henry could be the right man to manage Aston Villa

According to reports in the Guardian, France and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has been identified as the favourite to take over the managerial role at Aston Villa. The report adds that the former striker could be appointed in the next 72 hours – unless the Championship club decide to inquire the availability of Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

It is also being suggested that Chelsea legend John Terry could join the coaching staff at the club. The 37-year-old retired from playing football on Sunday, which further clears the air that he could join Villa. (Guardian)

Henry is currently an assistant to Roberto Martinez in the Belgian national team. The Frenchman did well as the team finished third in the World Cup, beating the likes of Brazil in the process. Hence, it is evident that the 41-year-old is an able coach for any team.

However, handing him the sole responsibility to manage a club that is struggling would be a decision that could go either way.

The ideal scenario would be for the Frenchman to take up the job and rejuvenate the whole team into performing in the right manner and hopefully, getting them back to fight for promotion to the Premier League.

But the worst case situation won’t be too far from how Aston Villa are playing currently. Hence, appointing a legend with decent coaching experience might just improve the team.

Henry possesses the winning mentality from his playing days. He doesn’t settle for less when there is more in the offing and he could come in and inspire this team to perform the way he wants them to. Considering the fact that he is a World Cup winner, the players should be motivated to perform better and impress him.

Conclusion

With the possibility of John Terry arriving as an assistant, Villa may have a coaching staff full of winners. If that does happen, it would be great for the team as they need inspiration from the dugout to perform better and get back into the promotion mix.

Hence, the club must hire Thierry Henry and provide him with the time to work with the squad. Getting Terry to assist him would be the icing on the cake.
