Aston Villa v Derby County Report: Aston Villa Match Report
Aston Villa returned to winning ways with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Derby County at Villa Park. Conor Hourihane scored a brace, with Tammy Abraham and Jack Grealish adding up on the scoresheet for Dean Smith’s men.
Hourihane opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Abraham’s shot was saved by Derby keeper Scott Carson, but the midfielder was on hand to finish the chance.
The Villa striker, who is loan from Chelsea, scored the team’s second in the 37th minute, after he was well found by Ahmed ElMohamady with a good cross from the right-hand side.
Hourihane made it three a minute before half-time, when he slid in to finish off the chances created by Abraham.
Then Grealish scored an absolute worldie following a set-piece routine in the added time of the first half to completely kill the game for the Rams.
Villa continued to pile on the pressure and Carson had to make several good saves to keep the score down to four.
It is a good win for Dean Smith’s men, who stay at 11th position, but now only six points behind the playoff places. If they manage to repeat these kinds of performances in the final two months, we could Villa playing the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Here’s how their fans reacted after this game:
