Ashley Cole Signs A New Contract With Chelsea -Done Deal

According to the Sky Sports, The Sun, The Telegraph & PA the reports are that Ashley Cole has signed new one-year contract extension at Chelsea. The Blues boss Roman Abramovich who has been holding onto the policy of not giving a contract for more than a year for a player aged 30 or above has certainly worked out. However the English and Chelsea left back will be the first one to extend his contract for a new one year old deal.

If true, the deal ends speculation that he would leave Stamford Bridge on a free at the end of the season. Cole has been linked with several clubs, Including Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, PSG and Manchester United.

Cole isn’t the only player who can leave on a free if he doesn’t sign a new-contract. Chelsea legend and fan favorite Frank Lampard is also one of the players who can leave on a free in the summer.

This will probably be a great news for the Blues fans. After the leftback had been linked with the likes of PSG & Real Madrid and even Manchester United and to retain the player for at-least one more year will perfectly make sense. Ashley Cole is still a top-class left back, although he hasn’t been 100% consistent this season but when he is good, he surely is the best, and it would make no sense financially or football-wise to let him go on a free at the end of the season.

No doubt that Chelsea have a talented player in Ryan Bertrand, and Patrick Van Aanholt is showing remarkable improvement in the Eredivisie – but they are not ready to become key players in the squad yet, either of them. It would be a disaster to think they will deliver world class performances, week in week out – they’re not ready to do that, which is perfectly normal.

So all in all, the Blues should really be happy that Cole has decided to stay.
