Arsene Wenger Discusses Team News, Transfers And More At The Leicester City Press Conference

Hello and welcome to the second pre-match press conference of the season ahead of a crucial game against Leicester City this weekend.

Arsene Wenger

The Gunners lost the opening fixture against Liverpool with a 3-4 scoreline after going 1-0 up in the first half. Aaron Ramsey was subbed off midway through the game with a hamstring injury and Wenger has confirmed that he will miss the trip to visit the Champions along with Alex Iwobi, who picked up a thigh injury during training.

When asked about the injuries, Wenger said; “Both of them have minor muscular problems. I think they will be out until after the international break but we feared worse – for Iwobi especially. It is a thigh problem for Iwobi, and Ramsey is a hamstring that will require two or three weeks. It is better news than we feared at the start.”

However, there was some good news as the manager hinted that French International Laurent Koscielny will play a role in Saturday’s game, thanks to the defensive crisis, which saw youngsters Holding and Chambers to line up against a tricky Liverpool side.

When Pressed about Koscielny’s involvement this Saturday, Wenger said;

“He is close,” he said, before speaking about his plans to give the player and extended break were put into disarray by pre-season injuries.

“I gave him holidays at the start because we have Gabriel and Mertesacker, but then we lost the two and we’re short of experience.”

Pressed again about the returns of Giroud and Ozil, Wenger admitted it would be something of a risk.

“Yes, I will consider them for selection this weekend. Of course they have not played any games for a while, so I have to be selective and I cannot go for the three because that would be too risky.”
