Arsenal’s target set to stay in Spain: Reports

According to recent reports, Arsenal target Sergi Samper will not be moving away from European champions Barcelona and moving to the Emirates. The home-grown defensive midfielder was being linked with the Gunners for quite some time, as manager Arsene Wenger had sent the club’s scouts to keep tabs on the youngster, who was part of Barca’s B side last term.

The 20 year old superstar could only earn four senior appearances for the Catalan club, since making his debut in the Champions League against Apoel and was hoping to move away from Spain in search of regular first-team football.

However, Sport added that the La Liga giants wanted to retain the youngster and the club’s technical secretary Robert Fernandez confirmed the La Masia graduate would be staying at the Nou Camp.

He stated, “At first, he will be in the B team , with the option, of course, of being involved with the first team.”

Arsenal were still monitoring Samper’s progress in similar fashion to Hector Bellerin, whom the north London outfit signed back in 2011.
