Arsenal’s Famous Left Side Attack Is Back

After seeing  Pires/Cole, Hleb/Clichy and Nasri/Clichy’s bombarding attacks from left side previously for Arsenal, last season Gibbs/Gervinho combination looked very much ordinary.

Though it is very much the beginning of the season, in first three games, Gibbs/Podolski combination showed some glimpses of Arsenal’s famous left side combo attack. Let’s take the Anfield game as our case study here.

Gibbs:

Last week game at Anfield was definitely one of the best game for Gibb’s in Arsenal’s jersey.  His 79 touches showed how influential he was during the game. Gibbs combined well with Podolski and looked very dangerous with his overlapping runs. He also showed discipline when maintaining Arsenal’s defensive shape.

Podolski:

Podolski

Lucas Podolski scored Arsenal’s first goal of the season with his trademark left footed finish after a nice counter attack from Arsenal. He also provided a good defensive cover for Gibbs when the left back was making his frequent attacking runs. Podolski also loves to run directly at defenders which adds a new dimension to Arsenal’s attacking game play. During the last week game, he made four crucial clearances and three interceptions proving his defensive abilities too.

This partnership can share both attacking and defensive responsibilities, making it more unique than other previous ones.

Can Poldi and Gibbs become the best left side partnership ever for Arsenal? Post your opinions below.
