A Statistical Comparison Of Alexis Sanchez and Marco Reus

Arsenal are one of the few clubs in the country that are set to make wholesale changes this summer. Their ultimate implosion has led to so much confusion and uncertainty around Emirates Stadium this season and there is every chance that Arsenal would already have started searching for top class talents. We have identified Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus as the perfect fit, but how has Rues fared in the Bundesliga in comparison to Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates? Here is a statistical comparison between the two wingers for their respective teams in the domestic leagues.

Sanchez Vs Reus

The German winger has not been able to keep himself fit yet again and has made just 11 appearances in the Bundesliga this season compared to the 29 that the Chilean has managed at the Emirates. A pass completion of 76% from Reus is slightly better than Sanchez’s 74% this season but there is not much separating the two wingers in terms of other numbers this season.

Sanchez has 18 goals in the league this season and Reus has not been as productive and has just scored twice in the Bundesliga. The German, however, has notched up an assist every two games compared to Sanchez’s one in every three games. While Sanchez has played more than two key passes a game on an average, Reus has just 1.67 per 90 minutes this season. Sanchez has also created 2.58 chances a game but the German winger is not too far behind, having created 18 chances at a rate of 2.15 per game.

Reus has been slightly more accurate with his shooting but the Chilean winger trumps Rues when it comes to one on one situations. With a successful take on rate of 66.94%, Sanchez is right up there with the best in Europe while Rues, who is equally capable, has completed just 48.5% of his take ons this season. Sanchez has also won more than 51% of his total duels this season while Rues stands at slightly less than that, at 50% mark.

On the defensive side of their game, Sanchez is easily a harder worker than Reus which is clear from these numbers. Though Reus has 0.72 interceptions per game this season, compared to Sanchez’s 0.59 per game, the Chilean tends to cover more ground than what the German usually does in the Bundesliga. So it is not a surprise that Sanchez has five yellows to his name compared to just the one for Reus.

Both players are closely matched, thus making Reus a superb addition alongside Sanchez at the Emirates.
