Arsenal would strike gold by re-igniting interest in this £8.8m-a-year Belgian powerhouse in the summer – Here is why

Arsenal FC Opinion – Why Arsenal should reignite their interest in Yannick Carrasco in the summer

According to a report in Express, Premier League giants Arsenal are still interested in signing Yannick Carrasco after failing to make a move for the Belgian international during the January transfer window.

The Gunners made a deadline day attempt to sign the winger on loan but couldn’t agree on a loan fee with Chinese side Dalian Yifang. (Express)

As per the report, Carrasco is keen on returning to Europe in the summer, and the north London side is keeping track of him. But they will face competition from Italian duo Inter Milan and AC Milan, who are also keeping close eyes on the Belgian.

The major drawback for Arsenal would be the 25-year-old’s wages. Currently earning £8.8 million a year in China, it is evident they would not be able to afford his salary. But, here’s why they should convince the player to join them irrespective of the wages:

Arsenal need quality in wide areas

Arsenal have made good progress in the first season under Unai Emery. They are in the race to finish in the top-four with nine games to go and still have a good enough chance to go deep in the Europa League.

While their defence needs a major surgery before challenging for the league title, there is an area in the attack where they need to spend to be a genuine force in England/Europe – and that is the attacking wing department.

The Gunners have Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan as the two options for the wide attacking areas. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang plays on the left-wing at times but we all know his favoured position is leading the line.

Hence, Emery and his men must navigate a way through to buy at least one winger in the summer. They were chasing Carrasco in the winter and must do so again when the window reopens.

The Belgian is a quality player who, at the age of 25, has enough experience to deal with the expectations at Arsenal and make a huge impact in England. He has played a Champions League final with Atletico Madrid, further epitomising his know-how of playing at the highest possible level.

Conclusion

All in all, Carrasco would be a great addition to this Arsenal side. The Belgian on the left, with the strike partnership of Alexandre Lacazette and Aubameyang, in addition to Mkhitaryan and Mesut Ozil, would make the Gunners an all-around attacking force.
