Arsenal vs Liverpool: Why The Red Devils Can Relax About The Champions League Spot

It is a really tough time for Liverpool, with so much expected out of them this season, it has been one problem after another and just when it looked like they would be on their way into the top 4, they lost out at home to Manchester United which was a big blow. A win against United would have seen them move up to the top 4 in place of United, instead they lost and now are 5 points behind the Red Devils with just 8 games to go.

Things don’t get easier for the Reds as they travel to Arsenal, a side which has been on fire at home and they will be looking to get one over the Liverpool team which drew 2-2 with the Gunners the last time the clubs met. Martin Skrtel who scored that last minute header will be suspended and so will Steven Gerrard. Arsenal could ensure that Liverpool are knocked out of the race for the top 4 with a win against their rivals on Saturday.

A big match with huge ramifications

Liverpool will head into this game knowing that anything less than a win will not be enough to give them a chance of getting back into the Champions League, they only have 8 games left and any slip ups will not help them out. They know they have to catch up to Manchester United who sit in the 4th Champions League spot but this game might be a little too much for a young Liverpool team who have given it all in the second half of the season, but it won’t be enough.

Liverpool would lose to Arsenal and even if they don’t, a draw is the best they can expect from a side which is impressive at home. Arsenal should have an easy time with this Liverpool squad, especially with Martin Skrtel missing, the brute in their defence not playing is a huge loss for the Reds, a loss would also mean that United could open an 8 point lead if they are to defeat Aston Villa this weekend, which is a huge possibility for United.

If the Red Devils do open up an 8 point lead, it will be all over for the Reds as United would surely claim that Champions League spot as losing 3 games out of the last 7 and hoping that Liverpool wins all their remaining fixtures is too much to ask for. Football might be a crazy game, but certain things don’t happen or can’t happen, can they?
