Arsenal Transfers: Debuchy Reveals Why He Signed For Arsenal

Arsenal announced their second signing of the season on Thursday, confirming the arrival of Newcastle right back Mathieu Debuchy in a deal which is believed to be around £12m

Although it is not as big as a news and the transfer, which was expected all summer, Debuchy does bring in a lot to the team and most possibly the best replacement that Arsenal could have found for the departing Bacary Sagna. On the back of a solid season for the Magpies, Debuchy had a solid World Cup starting in all of France’s matches ahead of his international team mate Sagna.

Following the move, the French International sounds excited about the possibility of playing the Champions League and a playing for a big club.

I’m very happy to be at Arsenal, and to sign for this big club. I’m very excited to get goingArsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the whole world. I am very proud to sign for Arsenal and to wear the colours.

And ofcourse the French connection and Arsene Wenger would have played a major part in the move.

Everyone knows Arsène Wenger. Everyone knows he’s a great coach so of course, he had a part to play in me coming hereI’ve come here because I really want to play Champions League football again, it’s one of the biggest competitions in the world. Everyone wants to play in it.

His time with Newcastle will definitely come in handy when playing in one of the biggest stages in the world. Debuchy played almost 18 months at Newcastle following his move from Lille.

It’s a very difficult but exciting league. Every match, every weekend is tough, but it’s fantastic to be able to play in one of the top leagues in the worldI think the settling-in period will be easier. I’ve been playing in the Premier League for a year and a half now so I already know it well, so that will be in my favour.
