We cannot blame many people to be surprised when they heard that Arsenal had triggered the release clause of Jamie Vardy from Leicester City. The news was followed by a lot of speculation and even the likes of Thierry Henry urging the England international to join the Gunners.
Vardy did not disclose his decision before the Euro 2016 and many of the Gunners fans would have expected that the decision will be favorable to them after the Euro. However now Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the player is likely to snub Arsenal and stay at Leicester City.
This comes as a major blow as Arsenal are looking to add some firepower to their squad and give competition to Oliver Giroud. Arsenal finished at second place on the table last season where none of their strikers were extraordinary. Wenger believes that an addition of someone like Vardy could give them the extra push needed to become the title winner. However hearing Wenger’s words it looks like Vardy is going to stay put at Leicester,
“Jamie Vardy is, at the moment at Leicester,” Wenger said speaking to a Japanese TV. “And, on what I know, he will stay at Leicester.”
