Arsenal signing this promising PSG starlet would sort out their midfield future for a number of years – agreed?

Arsenal opinion: The Gunners should make a move for Christopher Nkunku

The Evening Standard has reported that Arsenal have been given the green-light to sign PSG star Christopher Nkunku. They were linked with a move over the winter window but since Arsenal could only make loan moves, nothing panned out (BBC).

But despite that, the report indicates that the North London side have another chance. They will, however, have to pay around £17.2million for the 21-year-old whose deal with PSG ends in the summer of 2020.

That leaves him with around a year left on his deal at the start of this summer and it means that PSG could get something. Christopher Nkunku joined as a youngster and spent the final five years of his youth career there.

He eventually found his way into the first-team and made an impact under then PSG manager Unai Emery, hitting 27 appearances in all competitions. While a large majority of that was off the bench, the youngster still scored 5 goals, playing all over the field in the process.

For Arsenal, Christopher Nkunku’s versatility could be a big asset. A very athletic player, Nkunku can play in a wide range of positions starting from his preferred one as a central midfielder.

But over the course of his career, Nkunku has played as a right-winger, left-winger, right-midfielder, attacking midfielder, defensive midfielder and even as a left-back. That makes him eerily similar to Arsenal man Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

That allows him to effectively become a perfect rotation star and for Arsenal, that is something the club desperately needs. Their main issue over the last half a dozen seasons have been injuries at inopportune moments to key players.

That combined with a lack of back-ups for said players has added to their problems and Christopher Nkunku can fix it. Cool, calm and composed with the ball, the 21-year-old has developed slowly but steadily at PSG.

Since then, the hype surrounding the starlet has only grown and having played alongside Blaise Matuidi, Thiago Motta and even Marco Verratti, Nkunku seems to have learnt a few tricks from the PSG stars.

Conclusion

Arsenal need good talented players and Christopher Nkunku fits that bill. His versatility will certainly be a big help to the club and as a player that Unai Emery knows from his past tenure at PSG, it will help both Arsenal and Nkunku.

They need reinforcements, especially with Aaron Ramsey leaving, and the Nkunku could be the man to replace the Welshman.
