Arsenal signing this prolific Scottish speedster would completely transform their attack next season

Arsenal opinion: Why James Forrest would be a smart signing for Emery

Back in January, Arsenal were linked with Celtic winger James Forrest as Unai Emery tried strengthening his attacking department. However, a move for the Scotsman didn’t materialise and the Gunners instead went onto sign Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona.

Suarez’s loan spell at Arsenal turned out to be disastrous as injuries limited him to just four Premier League appearances. He failed to make any sort of impact that was expected from him and returned to Barcelona, who sold him to Celta Vigo last month.

Meanwhile, James Forrest had an excellent 2018/19 season at Parkhead, playing a vital role in Celtic’s historic treble ‘Treble’. The 28-year-old is one of the best wingers in the Scottish Premiership and took his game to another level under Brendan Rodgers, who is now in charge of Leicester City.

The Scot has netted 17 goals in each of his last two seasons for the club, improving remarkably in the Scottish Premiership and had perhaps attracted interest from Arsenal.

With Forrest currently in his prime and ripping apart defences in Scotland, Arsenal must reignite their interest in the speedy wide-man and sign him this summer.

It’s a huge season for the Gunners as they bid to return to the top four but there is plenty of work to be done. Emery had an unenviable task after replacing Arsene Wenger at the helm of Arsenal to get the club back into the top four, and oversaw a mixed campaign.

The Spanish manager faces an arduous battle this season after failing to qualify for the Champions League, leaving the club with a limited transfer budget.

The North London giants have signed 18-year-old Brazilian attacker Gabrielle Martinelli so far, as Emery aims to bolster his squad ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Martinelli is young and will certainly take some time to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League. So Emery and the fans have to be patient with the Brazilian.

Arsenal have two fantastic strikers in Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – the duo has struck a fantastic partnership. With better service next season, they can improve their individual goal tally.

Emery needs to sign a natural winger this summer after the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Alex Iwobi and Mesut Ozil had inconsistent campaigns.

Forrest ticks a lot of boxes for Emery’s side. The Scotsman’s forte is his blistering pace and nifty dribbling skills, which he uses to torment defences.

He has the type of quality and trickery that could turn the Gunners’ fortunes around almost immediately. His guile, speed, finishing skills and versatility would make him an asset at the Emirates Stadium.

Verdict

Emery must sign an explosive winger to bolster his attack and Forrest is a player that the Gunners desperately need in the first-team for the upcoming season.
