Arsenal opinion: Gunners want Florian Thauvin – Good move?
Football.London (h/t Foot-sur7) has reported that Arsenal are interested in making a move for Ligue 1 star Florian Thauvin. The 26-year-old attacker has been in prolific form, since his return to France, and has been one of Marseille’s stars over the last few years.
However, his struggles at Newcastle United are fresh in most people’s minds. A winger by trade, Thauvin is very direct, loves having the ball at his feet, and combines agility with exceptional close-control.
Thauvin is quite similar to Bayern Munich legend Franck Ribery. He finished last season with 22 goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1 alone.
This may have surprised a few. Thauvin had a torrid time at Newcastle, finishing his only season there with 5 goals and 2 assists to his name.
Yet, Thauvin found his feet back in France. He has been Marseille’s best player, and maybe a stint in England will make sense this time around, with Arsenal sniffing about.
The North London side need a winger in their ranks. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi have done relatively well but that won’t suffice if Arsenal want to be title contenders.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has done well in that position but the Gabonese is wasted out wide, as he does his best work as a forward. Florian Thauvin should have no problem making an impact given his prolific nature.
Even with Marseille struggling this season, the 26-year-old has produced a phenomenal 21 goals, putting him among Ligue 1’s best players. It’s a move that needs to happen in the near future but AC Milan’s interest in Thauvin could prove problematic (Football Italia).
