Arsenal will feel a frustrated by the result against their fiercest rivals Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. They gifted Spurs two goals, leaving themselves with much to do despite a great comeback.
A cause for excitement for the Gunners was the starting line-up, which included their reputed front-three – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe.
All three impressed going forward with Lacazette and Aubameyang getting on the scoresheet but none of them really clicked together.
Unai Emery did not play a creative midfielder behind them until Dani Ceballos came on in the second half. Ceballos has never been prolific in the assists charts as he’s a ball-carrier more than being the link between the midfield and the attack.
Emery hasn’t fancied Mesut Ozil either, which is why they should have signed Nabil Fekir. They were linked with him in the summer but the player has moved to Real Betis instead.
Fekir would’ve been perfectly set up to feed the two inside-forwards in Pepe and Aubameyang. He could’ve also played just behind them and created chances for all three forward players.
Fekir is one of those few players in the world, who, like Roberto Firmino, Wayne Rooney/Lionel Messi and Francesco Totti in the past, is perfectly suited to playing either as a creative false 9 or as a number 10.
The Frenchman scored 12 goals and registered 9 assists last season and was even more impressive the season before with 23 goals and 8 assists. He’s a French international and was part of the squad that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Emery will have to find the best balance for his squad soon, as Arsenal haven’t yet shown their full potential yet. If he had someone like Nabil Fekir in the side, he wouldn’t have had to worry and could’ve turned these results into victories.
