Why Arsenal should rekindle their interest in Emil Forsberg
Arsenal are off the back of their first loss in the Premier League season. It was a decent effort against a very good Liverpool side but their priority has to be to secure Champions League football after three years.
The Gunners face Tottenham Hotspur in the first North London derby of the season and it is a game that they really need to capitalize on. Arsenal have a really good front-three now but they are yet to gel.
However, there is a lack of creativity in the midfield. They did sign Dani Ceballos, whose strengths are dribbling, keeping the game ticking and doing his defensive work.
He’s never been a great chance creator or a goalscorer, however, and one player they should’ve signed is Emil Forsberg, who they were linked with in the past.
The 27-year-old Swedish international, who plies his trade in the Bundesliga, has not made as many appearances in recent years but is still a very creative player off the left side and likes to play in those half-spaces.
He registered 9 assists along with 7 goals in all competitions, which isn’t as good as his 22 assists and 8 goals in the 2016/17 term.
However, with these devastating players in and around him, he would have been able to thread passes for fun and possibly rediscover the form that made him such a sensation not so many seasons ago.
Arsenal have sold Aaron Ramsay and Unai Emery hasn’t really fancied Mesut Ozil since he was made manager due to his lack of discipline off the ball.

Forsberg is used to playing in a system that requires a lot of intensity and energy and this is something Emery always demands from his players. He also doesn’t have the most creative full-backs. Sead Kolasinac is quite creative but he can be a defensive liability at times.
Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney are injured and haven’t fully recovered, which is why it’s important to have someone who can unlock a defence. And to that end, Forsberg would have been perfect.
