Arsenal Opinion – Why the Gunners should pounce on the opportunity to sign David Alaba

According to a report in Sun, Arsenal fan and current Bayern Munich left-back David Alaba has teased on the possibility of a future move to the Premier League.

The Austrian international, who arrived in Germany in 2009, has been one of the mainstays in the Bayern team. He has played over 300 games for them in all competitions.

Contract-wise, the 26-year-old still has two years left with the Bavarians. However, he has hinted on potentially taking new challenges in the future, and lent support to Arsenal. (h/t Sun)

Here’s why the Gunners should take this as a launch-pad and make a good offer to sign the left-back in the summer:

Arsenal need more quality at left-back

Arsenal have made good progress under Unai Emery so far this season but it is a pre-designed fact that they must improve their back-line if a title challenge is to be on the menu in the upcoming seasons.

Focusing at left-back, they have Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac for that position. But neither of them have done enough to convince that they can be a regular part of a back four that can keep 12-15 clean sheets in a league season.

Hence, signing a new left-back should be a priority in the summer. They are in a good position to qualify for Champions League football next season. Thus, the attraction power could get a bit stronger as compared to the last two summer windows.

Arsenal must use that and David Alaba’s soft corner towards them to make a good offer to Bayern to sign the left-back. The 26-year-old would not only enhance the quality of the team but also cement his place at left-back and bring that continuity to the back-line.

Conclusion

All in all, everything points towards the conclusion that the Gunners should try to sign Alaba in the summer.

He has played a lot of football in Germany and moving to the Premier League would help a lot. Meanwhile, Emery’s men would profit a lot by having the Austrian international in their squad.
